Wellhead Chlorinator and Multi-Media Filter

Overview

The well head chlorine disinfection system consists of a wellhead chlorinator (WHC) which delivers chlorine to the well and a multimedia filter (MMF) which removes chlorine and sediment from the water at the house.

  • The WHC maintains a chlorine concentration in the well appropriate to kill or deactivate bacteria in the water column by delivering chlorine tablets every time the well turns on.
  • The MMF filters out solid sediment such as oxidized iron and dead bacteria, and dissolved chlorine. The control head regulates self cleaning cycles based on days of treatment.

Maintenance

Geowater recommends an annual service to maintain the system. This includes testing the mechanical and electronic components, field testing the water to assess functionality, and cleaning the WHC motor assembly.

Customer Responsibility

The WHC requires the periodic addition of chlorine pellets. This unit uses 0.79 g pellets from Better Water. These can be sourced from Geowater or online. Use of the wrong size of pellet will damage the motor and void the warranty. Failure to maintain the feed supply will diminish the water column chlorine concentration and allow bacteria to repopulate. When changing the pellets, pull out the jar with the motor attached, invert, and unscrew – the motor is threaded and works as a cap on the jar. For best results, add half a jar at a time to avoid over or under filling, and do not over-tighten. Pellet consumption is based on water usage. The MMF has a clock which will need to be reset after power outages. The programming is maintained and the unit will still regenerate on schedule, but if the clocks are off by more than an hour regeneration cycles can interfere with normal water usage by reducing water pressure. Reset the clock by holding the up or down arrow until the correct time is set. There is an am indicator but no pm indicator.
